Thought it would be good to have a place for people new to the game to pick up a few tips.

Develop a build that works. Your character should specialize in something, spreading your attribute points too thin will make it weak. Also, you shouldn't be using more than 1 or 2 skills from your secondary profession, and these should be using the same attribute. Your skills should compliment each other. For example, I use 4 attack skills on my main build for my warrior which all work off of adrenaline, or hitting an enemy a certain number of times before the skill is charged. First I use Sever Artery, which causes the enemy to start bleeding. Second is Gash, which if it hits a bleeding enemy does extra damage and lowers the enemy's maximum health by 20% for a certain time. Next up is Galrath Slash, which is just for extra damage. The finishing move is Final Thrust, which also does extra damage, but doubles that damage if the enemy was below 50% health. By the time I build up that adrenaline to use Final Thrust, there is a good chance the enemy will be below 50% due to that bleeding, lowered max health, and extra damage. So basically, you've got to find skills that work with each other.

Learn the economy. This is one of a few games where gold is the primary currency of trades. Keep an eye on the chat window and learn what certain types of items typically sell for. The economy in this game fluctuates just like the stock market. Alot of items are part of flavor of the month, got to have it, fads. But alot of the items are mainstream and their prices fluctuate around, but not too much. The trick is to be able to spot a good deal. To me, a good deal is one of 3 things: 1. I need the item and the price is low. 2. I need the item and the price is normal, but the item is hard to find and I'm willing to pay the price. 3. I don't need the item, but the price is low and I can unload it quickly and turn a profit on it. If in doubt, ask one of us before dropping cash on it. Also, never sell runes, dye, or materials to the merchants. Sell them back to the traders (rune trader, dye trader, materials trader, rare materials trader) if you can't find a human buyer and are desperate to unload them. The economy for runes, dyes, and materials follows the traders. However there is a catch. Let's say you wanted to sell a minor vigor rune you found to the trader. While you can buy them from the trader for say 1.7k, the trader will only buy them from you for 1.4k. So the thing people do is offer prices slightly below what you can buy items like this for at the traders. So I would offer that minor vigor for say 1.5k or 1.6k to humans before settling for the 1.4k the trader would give me for it.

A few commonly used abbreviations:
Build - your character and what it's function is.
WTS - Want to Sell
WTB - Want to Buy
WTT - Want to Trade
LFG - Looking for Group
LFM - Looking for More
rdy - ready, often used to say you are ready to leave the town for the mission or quest the group was formed for.
1 - an affirmative response to someone asking if the group is ready. In computers, 1 means yes and 0 means no.
x/y LFM for z - x is the amount of people already in the party, y is the party capacity, and z is what the party is doing. Example: 5/8 LFM for galrath. This would mean the party has 3 open slots for those wanting to do the Villany of Galrath quest.
Tank - common term for a warrior. The warrior's primary function in the party is to get the enemy to focus on them and absorb all the damage while the rest of the party attacks it.
Nuker - common term for a fire based elementalist, check out Kitty's build.
MM - minion master, a common necromancer build.
SS - another common necromancer build.
Run - running through a part of the map without fighting to get to the next town or mission.
LFR - looking for run.
farming - killing a group of enemies that are known to drop something you are looking for, zoning back to a town, then going back to get them again, repeat.
CR - chest run. Running through a map just to get to the chests.
CR SI - chest run, self invite.

You can customize the layout of your interface, or HUD. Press F11, then go to the interface tab. You can make the chat window display 5 lines instead of 3 this way. Just drag the top of the window called chat.

You can save templates consisting of attribute arangements and skill bars. Arrange the attributes and skills how you want them, then click the little floppy disk icon to the left of profession. It's pretty easy from there. You can use this to quickly change skills and attributes before a quest or mission. I have 3 saved, my main build, a build for framing, and a build for running.

yeah it is... Thanks Smooth!
If anyone wants to start up a new character let me know and I will run through the begining with you. I would like to have more than a Monk, although my Monk is starting to turn into a wrecking machine!

I have played this game when it was in beta with jesse from NBK and I loved it!! Never bought it because nobody on the squad was really into it. After my meeting tonight I might just go to walmart and pick it up. What kind of character do you guys need in the group? When I played I was an elementalist/monk.

We probably have enough warriors, which is going to be a problem later in the game when you need a diverse party. I think Unleashed plays a monk.

we need a necromancer if you wouldn't mind being one of those. The can create Bone Minions and they help You fight. Thought they only last a certain time before they die they do come in handy especially if your in a crowd of enemy they usually will go after the monk or the Minions first.
