If you allow the Government to invalidate the Freedom of Religion portion of the First Amendment, what is to stop them from moving on to prohibiting Free Speech or the right to peacably assemble?  Should Fox News or CNN be prohibited from broadcasting because they promote certain viewpoints?

It is a very slippery slope that you face, one which I believe the Founders of the United States sought to avoid.

Here are a few other "Fears" that have been used to control us in the past...
Nuclear War (Russia), AIDS/HIV, Killer Bees, Legionare's Disease, West Nile Virus, Avian Flu, Global Warming....

I am not suggesting that we shouldn't be vigilant, but some "Fears" are made out to be more than what they really are.

Well I agree with you on the freedom of speech and religion.    I think we have good reason for the "fear" though.  I think some  don't fear the Islam threat enough.

As an aside, freedom of speech/religion is already being eroded.  Hate crimes laws will keep Christians from speaking out. Much like it has been done in Europe and Canada, Just recently the Congress tried to stifle reaction groups by regulating then any time they contact the public about an issue in Congress.   

It boils down to this: there are elements that cant win by popular support. Their ideas catch on to maybe a bit but not enough to change society. So they use force or law.  Islam is like this.  Nazism was like this.

Some liberal causes are like this.  Popular vote in 27 states in the U.S. indicates that people want to keep Marriage the way it is, so liberals go to court and in the case of Mass. wins.

It's the same freedoms that we protect that make it dangerous for us.  Freedom of press of some news agencies might undermine the war.  Freedom of association and religion allows Islam to flourish and there fore radicals to gain foot-holes.

The problem is people think the government gives us those freedoms when it is the people that gave us those. Mostly the many Americans that sacrificed themselves in the military.  People dont see the Iraq war and N. Korea as threats to our freedoms when they are.  Not necessarily they will invade, but people use those crisis situations to erode freedoms. it happened in Germany and Iran and Cuba. Radicals just need and excuse. We the people need to be speaking up and voting and standing against not only Islam but those that see this ans an opportunity to advance their own agendas.

..."what is to stop them"?  You and I nick.  You talk as if the gov't is our enemy.  Don't get me wrong here, I don't agree with a lot of things about our gov't .
This IMHO is a hostile take over of our very lives.  If you know the Koran  or have at least tried to understand it you will see a lot of hate and the spread of discontent.  It gives instruction to it's followers.  It has been this way since the days of Muhammad before the mess we are in today that they (Islam)  will keep close as friends those unbelievers (You and I) so that you may know your enemy and find their weakness so that  you can destroy, and what is theirs will be yours - take their wives and children as slaves and a 5th of the spoils go to Islam.   That is total paraphrasing but it is what is being taught and we are in trouble. They do not teach peace and accord anywhere in that book.

It's my opinion that any religeon or faction that theaches its followers to do harm to others simply because they do not believe, should be banned in the United States as a terrorist organization. it has nothing to do with rights or freedom of religeon, it has to do with national security, and the security of local citizens.

The whiners in Government will never let that happen.  They will say: "who will determine who is the bad guys?".  besides, In this case the Branch Dividian and Jim Jones of the world would have shut down Christianity.  We need to go after individuals..wait the whiners will still say discrimination.

If present trends continues, Muslims will be the majority religion in some major countries.  What is going to happen is we are going to isolate ourselves along with Israel and maybe a few mostly Catholic countries and a few in Asia.  Go back and read BBruzers threads and you see the Armageddon Issue a one-track process.

Because of our inability to not be politically correct; and because of the hole in our society left by abandoning Christianity and plain good sense; and because of our leaders who are politicians and not statesmen, we are doomed to suffer some great harms.  They wont close the border and they are afraid of offending the Muslims.

I say we hold the Muslims and leaders accountable.  Why do we not do that?  Support and protect the Muslims that speak out against this, if there are any. 

If anyones rights should be taken away its the American Islamic Relations organizations who cries fowl every time we profile a Muslim acting suspiciously, and the media that is so tuned to the liberal-politically correct banter that most American are in the dark.  At least hold press conferences on C-Span that tells it like it is..I don't think the media by in large does that. They wait till some Muslim blows up a convoy then blame Bush.

What we have here is a group that openly says it wants to take over us or destroy us.  What ever percentage that is of the actual population is not important. What is important is the huge silence coming from the majority of this so-called peaceful religion.  its time for us to tell the "peaceful majority" to weed out it's own garden.

I'm not saying its a workable solution, just saying what  I wish could happen.
Theres too much violence because of differences in religeon. In my mind this is a contradiction to what religeon should be about. its about being good, not being bad.
religeons that practice bad are not religeon in my mind. Maybe such beliefs are just an excuse for people to act that way. selfishness pride greed, those are non religeous worldly thigs, but some religeons seem to be using these as a motivation to commit atrocitie. they are nothing more than conspirators and criminals, hiding behind religeon.

Australia's Prime Minister John Howard  slammed Barack Obama for his "get out of Iraq" attitude and the attitude in general about Islam. 

Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (AR) warned that the country is at war wth a shameful perversion of Islam, or as Juggie said: Religiion.  He said anything less than a resounding victory in Iraq would be suicide.  I say that that applies here at home too.

Huckabee a Baptist Minister understands that this a war of religion and doctrine. Liberals tend to think that its a doctrine of oppressed peoples.  Note that the bombers in England were well-to-do upperclass young males. 

The media and the liberals need to get a bit of horse sense and understand this is war for society as we know it.  The radical Islam is a bad thing.. it is evil plain and simple.  But we have covered evil and given it other names to the point we do not even recognize it when it slams into our buildings and kills our people.

What do we do about the war? At home?  Think of the chaos that will happen if we pull out and ignore things here under the guise of politically correct.  We will die here at home. Then the liberals will blame Bush for that, I guess.

I watched people I cared for go off to fight.  I do not like war and I do not like people dying.  But I do understand that there is needed a sacrifice and the armed forces understand this.  Armies are ment to kill and break things. Many many more innocents will die for the few sweet young men/women that do in Iraq and elsewhere.  The world is a nasty place and will kill you.   That is what armies are for. it time we changed them back from policemen, give them enough people and machimes to do the job and quit lowering their resolve with al this talk about a lost cause.

The soldiers do die in vain if we just let chaos take over in Iraq and give the U.S to the radicals on a silver platter.
