supposedly 2007 is to be a banner pc gaming year.
the majority of the hype will evolve around Vista and Halo2 .Shadowrun > cross platform play vis pc version of xbox live.
but there are still games to keep an eye out for .

Silent Hunter 4 should be out soon if not already.
http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/silent-hunter-4/
Also Black Box/Orange Box for Half Life 2 in the fall.
http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/half-life-2-orange-box/
Stalker has also been anticipated for a long time.
http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/stalker-shadow-of-chernobyl/
There's also an Elder Scrolls expansion I'm keeping an eye on.

So many games...so little money!

The original Silent Hunter was very cool back in Windows 95 days. I still have that game. I would be a bit curious how it plays in todays technology.

a word of caution here
as you may know microsoft is working to try and unify pc gaming under the "live" service..
live is an excellent service , taking the headaches out of server setups and voice com..however
there are still many publishers who are not yet participating in the ""games for windows"" program.
games for windows
is a set of standards asked for by ms. they include
support for modern monitors and HD resolutions
support for 360 gamepad and headsets
support for "automatic" patching and updating
support for complex environments such as machines with locked ports and network
restrictions.
support for dx10 and vista ..some are backward compatible for xp.
games that sport the white banner "games for windows" are tweaked to run on vista
and on a vast array of modern computers , trying to cut down on driver/patching headaches
and increase the similarity to the live anywhere service.
one of the major publishers that have chosen not to participate is UBISOFT.
silent hunter,graw,vegas, ect.
as you know ubisoft has in the past used a HARDWARE device driver for disk check called
STARFORCE .. this device is not supported by vista ,any ubisoft games that use it might not
install or run on vista machines..even with vista UAC turned down.
the games for windows initiative does not include disk checking device drivers , so you can buy
knowing those games will for the most part run fine.
all of these games we see here as of now do not support GFW , so it is still a crap shoot
but as it goes right now winXp will run these just fine.
i just love the STEAM srvice from valve!!,, and the decompression technology is the better way to verify authenticity
much better than disk checking,
i cant wait for TEAM FORTRESS that game will be an out and out blast.

I think Ubi ditched Starforce on future products last year. But like you said, it still remains on the older games.

yea smooth i gree sounds like a good game but and this is a big but because i dont know much about the game U posted , If I want to go around shooting aliens then I will by Crysis. The game engine is amazing and i am sure there will be some good mods on that engine that one can take advantage of.

crysis with out a doubt will be a premier game , but i dont know how well it will run backwards compatible with dx9?
it is to be compatible , but remember when farcry came out it was a ballbuster game to get your pc to run , does anyone have the minimum specs on crysis? whatever they are i would double it, prolly tons and tons of HDR and effects, might need a monster graphics card to run it.

I have the original far cry and I have never had a problem getting it to run on any of the 3 pcs i have. None at all.
There are no sys req. specs released yet. But it is an amazing engine and will mostlikly be seep once they do come out. but I will probably still get it.
