I don’t understand some people’s moral compass, or what ever that thing is that guides them in the decisions and beliefs about life. Mine is based on Christianity, yes. But God gave us the free will and we all make decisions for ourselves. We are responsible for those choices. God made responsibility, too.
I’ve paid for a few of those decisions, as I am sure you have.
There are many moral questions. Adultery, abortion, drinking, drugs, assisted suicide to name just a few. Decisions such as divorce, killing, lying are all fraught with grey areas, at least according to secular thinking. We make a thousand small choices every day. Some are life changing and some don’t amount to much. How you feel about certain things is actually who you are. That’s part of what character is, I guess.
There are two questions, however, that perplexes me to no end. One is how someone could hurt a little child. How a person could kill a 5 year old or a mother drown her kids in a bathtub. I think God has a special place for those that hurt innocent babies and children. I have to think that some of these people have lost their reason and mind. They do not know what they are doing.
The other question I’ve been thinking about for some time. There is a group of people in this world that is set apart. A group of people that we owe so much to.
Veterans.
World War II seems so remote to me. The Iraqi war does to a certain degree, also. What should not be remote is the respect for the men and women in uniform that are willing to die for us. I think that abandoning them or cutting them down for political reasons is a crime against God and nature. Christian or not, to deface or degrade those men and women is to tear at the fabric of all that is right. Jesus Himself said that no man has a greater love than to lay down his life for his fellow man.
We don’t want to know what they went through, which is natural. No one likes war and death. But to just dismiss it or accuse them when they did nothing wrong is up there with child molesting, rape and murder. Free speech? Since when do we celebrate lies? Why do we visit the sins of a few soldiers on the whole? Just to sell airtime and papers? To get a vote through Congress? To tear down a president?
We owe them our respect and gratitude. From Guam to Bagdad. Europe and Vietnam. Frightened and in bad conditions in harms way. The few for the many doing their best to stay alive and do a difficult job. People with families that could be out on a Saturday night or at a football game.
I’m sorry of you think I’m nuts, maybe I am. I just cant understand how anyone could bite the hand that pulled them out of the fire. How can you demoralize a person that is willing to die so you can keep your little life? How can you put down all those that actually did that? How can you deny the love in the sacrifice?
Shame on anyone that does, I think you have a special place in Hell next door to those child molesters.

WOW Nigh!
I must have missed something in the news, don't get to watch much of it. I do hear where you are coming from, I have a lot of family that is still in the military or was in the military. One of the many mysteries in life and that is why it is a mystery is the answer to the age old question "Why" and a popular one which I am sure the Lord must hear alot. That is what many people always seem to begin and end their sentences with. Why God Why? Why did you do this to me, or Why did it have to be me? and so forth I am sure you get the idea.
When the Lord gave up his son for us I am not sure he truly anticipated the outcome of which direction his children would go. We have to remember there is only one Judge in this world and no other. The age old question of "Why" if you look at it closely has been around for generations and generations, even back in the old days, when those doubted Jesus Christ. For Example, take a look at our children and when they reach a certain age they begin to ask "Why" and if you think about it you can remember stories about our parents telling us we did the same thing and our grandmother telling us our parents did the same thing. The answers to those questions can hold a huge impact on them and mold them for the future; so next time you hear a question of "Why", even from adults, lets not be so quick to dismiss it.
As BB wrote awhile back, we all need to find our relationship with God, and those that demoralize may not have faith or a lack of it. To try and make yourself look good at another's expense is wrong, cruel, and immoral. It sickens me and makes me wonder "why or how" someone could ever hurt or kill another human being especially a child. The words I carry with me the most and love are those from the poem Footprints. The man asks in the end:" Lord, u said once I agreed to follow you, that you would be with me forever, yet during the highest and lowest points of my life, I only saw one set of Footprints."
The Lord smiled and replied," My precious child, it was during those times that I carried you." He never left, he never leaves us, and though their will always be doubt and confusion in some and questions awaiting answers, let us not forget, who died for us and what he has to offer.

We should not tolerate belittling our troops. Debate the war, give your opinion, but dont blame them nor use them for your political gains. There is something wrong iwth a society that lets that happen..there issomething wrong with a society that releases child molesters with a slap on the wrist. I don't care what the law says, where is the protection of the innocent and the honorable?

I don't disagree with you Nigh, but society is what people make of it. It is hard to watch it go down the drain. I have only one sister now in the military and I pray for her everyday. My brother-in-law is in as well and there is always a possibility of them calling my other sister back in. I thank the people who lay down there lives for us and stand and fight for what they believe in. However, unlike you and me, some people can't resist the Devil's temptations and figure it is an easy way out. Our society is not just nor is it fair. But there are people out there who try to make a difference even with the law system, it may seem small to us but monumental to them. Some people take the position they are in because they do believe in their cause, others I will agree do it soley for the purpose of money, regardless of their actions. Our neighborhood is not the greatest nor what our kids face everyday they leave the house and face an even bigger challenge of being on their own and we are not there to protect them.
I don't deem to make excuses nor do I try to for the legal or democratic standpoint. A flyer stating a sex-offender is in your neighborhood or released from jail should not make it just or right. Or getting mad at the actions of our troops or what the are doing defending our country because a husband, father, wife, son or daughter has died is not right. But I can tell you people give their opinion whether good or bad and remember the story about the Garbage Truck, even though it is bad they may be venting, but whatever their reasoning it is how we handle the situation that makes us different from others. That is why I can say proudly I am honored to have my Sisters be who they are and walk tall no matter if they get spit upon, yelled at or called names, they took an oath, uphold it and leave with a smile and their heads held high.

There used to be more honor and more responsibility in this country. I believe in freedom and expressing yourself and giving your opinion. There has to be standards and we are loosing those standards. People say you have the right to have child porn, somewhere some child was abused in making that porn. What idiot judge or politicial says it's okay to have the porn, just not produce it? The ACLU has that stance.
What idiot says its okay for the homosexuals to come into our schools and talk about thier lifestyles when Christians are banned. A guy can wear a dress to the prom but another cant pray at a football game. Common decency is out and the 'rights' of the few is in.
Selective reporting is the rule of the day. We dont see the pure obscenity of a gay parade, we dont see the heroic deeds or soldiers carrying a chold to safety under fire. We see politicians using half truths and assumptions in tearing down the other side.
