Sweet F*ing card kitty!..you will love it., well?...how are you with ATI stuff?..
that 1 gig doesnt really help out now, 99.9 percent of games including crysis are coded for 128/256/512 frame buffer, under winxp and 256/512 under vista..512 under vista 64bit, but if your thinking of future proof..yeah.
heres the thing:
i had a 7800 geforce right, performance was blah blah, it was alright but certain games crippled it easliy, namely RB6 vegas, and GRAW, it kinda held the rest of my system back , so i went out and got an ATI X1950pro , it was the same price but the specs were off the chart, 575 core vs the 7800 400core , ect ect , well after getting used to the new interface, i can safely say the ATI card completly curb stomped the 7800 card , in every way possible, made it look foolish actually , so far i can throw crysis at med to high settings with no sweat, the ati cards i think really really over achieve, they are built like tanks and are almost always turbocharged to the nines , vs nvidia but NV has multiple sku's and tons of cards , ATI has less across the board so they always build them to stay relevant , by packing in everything they can.
i think the 2900 1gig is comparable to the NV 7800gtx performance wise, but the ATI card will almost definatly be a more advanced board, and have much better reliability, then the NV cards, for one thing the ATI boards have HDTV encoders built right into the gpu , and you can tell in video playback, also i prefer the look of games with the ati card , better definition and a clearer picture.
i paired my card with an Ageia physx card , great 1 2 combo , together they handle almost anything , they served me well i can say . i put my ATi card in the hall of fame with my 6800gt as one of the best vid cards i have ever bought.
heres the link to the one i got . this was a while ago hope it is still posed right.
http://www.visiontek.com/products/cards/retail/x1950pro_AGP.html <--same price as the 7800 but dig those specs compared to the Nv cards.
i think you will really like the card , just remember just as i did it comming from years of nvidia, it will take you a good 3 or 4 weeks to get the learning curve , as far as handling the driver panel.
just imagine this kitty, get two of those puppies and crossfire them ..2 gigs and dual cores at those specs...Hoooly crap..hell yeah.
