Okay I boot up my computer and it does fine. Windows begins to load and you see the little graphic under windows..then the monitor shouts off.  The PC is still working because I can see/hear the HD and fans working.

I tried a different monitor..same thing. Changed cables and reset the vid card. nVidia 7800, no over clocking.

Help

It turns off completely or goes to standby (orange light)?

no signal to the monitor.. stand by...apparently restore worked.  I will configure Windows Update now to pick and choose what I want.  Sheesh.

Wooo hoo I fix all by me self. I think.

You did it!    Just my 2 pennies worth.

You may want to look at the BIOS and make sure that the PCIe is set as default (if you are running PCIe).  Some boards have integrated or options for display.  Some are PCI, PCIe, AGP or on board video.  This should really never change once invoked in BIOS.  With newer boards, some now offer BIOS changes straight from Windows, so the change could have been made there.  Hope that helps.
