Well after pouring things over for months I ordered today.  Parts should be in for the weekend.

E8500
EVGA 750i FTW
Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066 4gb(2x2)
EVGA GTX 260 Core 216
Corsair 750TX 750W PSU
Zalman 9700NT
Vista Home Premium 64 bit

Everything else is being carried over from this build.  After alot of deliberation, I decided to go with Intel over AMD this time.  I'm an AMD fan, but their current stuff is just so far behind.  I was also considering a quad core setup, but it was either a 65nm quad on a slower FSB, or a 45nm dual on a faster FSB.  The 45nm 1333 FSB quads were out of my price range too.  So I went with a 3.16ghz 45nm dual that is known to oc past 4ghz.  Looking forward to playing stuff on max again with good fps and looking forward to building it!  Will provide pics of the build as usual.

Why did you go with 64 bit Vista? I've heard that nothing really works on it.

I have run 64 bit vista since it came out. I haven't found anything that doesn't run on it. So take it from someone who's been there.

I am running 64bit Vista premium with no issue at all.  Runs incredibly, fast all my games work with a noted increase in load times and all around game play seems even to run better  (DX10 I assume).
Basically the 64bit is a point and click - meaning you point and click and the program is in your face right now, no waiting.  I can click on every application I have and they are open as fast as I can click them.  Games of course will load but those are notably faster in loading.
I suppose the legacy devices that you may have might give you some issue in 64bit but even most of them have things worked out as well. Vista maintains a non-64bit program files system that seems to bode well with non 64bit apps.

Up and running.  Have a few questions regerding Vista.  How do you make the icons on the desktop smaller?  Also, firewall recommendations?  Zonealarm stopped install due to 64 bit os.  I thought I remembered reading Zonealarm could work.  Still in the process of installing all my programs here.

Smooth, stick with the Vista firewall for now until you find out more about ZA.  This way you will know that the 3rd party firewall is not to blame while burning this new OS in.

Icon and Font size are in the Personalize menu by Right clicking the desktop.  Look at the dpi settings.

The search in Vista is somewhat cool at times.  Just type in what you want  in the search area at the Start button and you would be suprised at what it brings up

DPI is already on the smallest.  Also, I have no sound, it is muted somewhere but I can't find it.
