my wifes computer has got the antivirus 2009 trojan and ive tried everything to get rid of it, its very annoing . it shows up in add and remove programs and you cant remove it it also has a baloon pop up at bottom right of screen and if you click on baloon it runs a scan then shows all the viruses and wants you to purchase. ive tried spybot remove and i bought system works 9 and its still there.  th9is is the same thing katdaddy post about the fake antivirus programs.

try spyware doctor, it has the best rating by several pc magazines. I used it recently on a pc at work that had a similar problem. i had tried several big name antispy and antivirus programs to no avail. spyware doctor cleaned it right up.

I'd also run HijackThis to verify it is gone once you try the steps there.

i got it removed now, i just need to get rid of that annoying red X at the bottom right , every now and then a baloon pops up and says your computer is infected. dont know how to deleet that or turn it off.

Like Smooth was saying, I think "hijack this" should be able to find that. you just have to figure out what "not" to delete with it. I use hijack this often. it's very helpful with stuff like that. Unfortunatley you can delete the wrong stuff if your not careful. I lost my internet connection once. thats how i learned not to delete the one with my IP in it. LOL. if you need help with it, message me.
