after being lost for a little while.. saying WTF a few times and where is it now!! Ive muttled threw a few things to speed this thing up big time. Ive been in system start up turned off a bunch of stuff. been in the bios turning things off and on blah blah removed allot of the dell crap that's installed when it's shipped. So basically Ive done most if not all the XP kinda tune up stuff.
it's Fista home premo. i am quite shore there is more that can be done. like turning off the fricken messages that keeps asking if i really want to do something.. it's really not a biggie but i would like to turn that off.  I am  shore there will be more to come as i use it.

Yes, that's UAC Felix, User Account Control.  Someone can probably explain it better than me, but basically it switches you between a normal user account and an admin account temporarily for security purposes.  You can turn it off in Windows Security Center under Other Security Settings.  If you keep a secure machine, firewall, av, spyware sweeps, etc, you probably don't need it.

Nope, not really.  I must say I like it better than XP.  Have not had a single BSOD, or anything bigger than a crash to desktop so far.

Hey there Felix.
I got stuck with Vista the early on since I ordered my PC the day after Dell had made it mandatory for all home PC units.

There have been a few upgrades to compatibility issues of software.

If you ever have a hard time gettin something to load, you can use the properties and set the program to run XP compatible.  If I recall,  there are other "run compatible" items listed.

Good luck.  Cheers and Happy Holidays

Vista Home Prem here as well.  I have had no issues at all with this system.  Yes, there is a nice backward compatibility feature that allows you to run programs in XP mode.  Nice feature

Laptops on the other hand can do with out the bells and whistles that Vista offers though.  The AERO is a big mem hog as well as some other graphical features.

All in all, this Vista has done well with me and I prefer it over the XP.
If I had one issue with Vista is the home networking has issues with XP clients.  There is a fix but it is a headache when you run several XP machines on a Vista network.  We have 2 XP and 2 Vista machines.  I constantly lose sharing capabilities between the XP machines and the Vistas.  Minor headache but nonetheless a headache

BTW

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx
That link has the Tweak UI that is very handy with Vista.  Allows you to control most everything with out hunting for it
