Smooth, I hope you can help - This is right up your alley I am sure.
Looking at upgrading to a gt?200 series.
Looking at Newegg, there must be a major difference.

I see some reviews that puts these cards in with the G92 card NVIDIA pushed 18 months ago (remake and packaging) - I disagree DDR3 memory was not mainstream for graphics cards back then. So reading the reviews sometimes has me wondering if soem of those idiots are blowing smoke.

Typically GT indicates a basic card. GTX indicates a more powerful card with higher clocks, more stream processors, etc. GTS usually comes later as a revision of a GT card, adding more memory, higher clocks, and other changes. This is the way it was prior to the 200 series. Since then it has gotten more complicated.
The card you pointed out there, the GTS250, is kind of an oddity in this naming convention. While it is being marketed as a 200 series card, I believe it still uses the G92 core, which the 9800 series uses. Basically its a beefed up 9800.

That is what I was seeing there - I just can't see the G92 using the DDR3 in 2007. I mean that is at least 3 generations ago.

Yes, anything above a 9500 in the 9 series uses DDR3. I'm guessing you're running an 8x00 series now?

This is close to what I have now
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130438
Except my mem clock is at 1000 and DDR2
[edited -->]
and 512mb not 1gig
There is quite a scam going on here with graphics cards lately and it is getting way more confusing.
I think I will still look at the GTX260 series and seriously looking at either of these two.

Tho I have an XFX 680i board, I may lean toward the XFX version but not liking the price.

Same card I have with the exception of that being the newer 55nm version, mine is the older 65nm. Don't buy factory overclocked cards, you'll be throwing your money away. GPU overclocking is rediculously easy and EVGA covers it under warranty so long as you don't physically damage the card. They even provide the software for it. When you break it down, in that case they're charging you 20 bucks more for an 8% core oc and a 5% memory oc. You could do that probably within a few minutes on your own.

They are a good company, however I don't think they can match EVGA's warranty.

EVGA is much better as far as i'm concerned. i had WAY to many problems with BFG. my first came in DOA, the replacement kept the fan speed at default 25%. i had to use a secondary program to correct that(Rivatuner), since they never seemed to care if they corrected the problem. when i finally got the cash to dump it, i did. and dam glad i did.

My main concerns are not so much a DOA, a good manufacture like XFX and EVGA put out good solid stuff and still put out the occassional DOA. It's the reviews I see that show DOA after DOA the flags go up. I didn't see that with BFG, tho I did read a lot about customer support going south with them and a few angry customers. That is a flag right there as Wild had points out.
Quite honestly, I take half the reviews I read as fair to good info, the other half are smokin rope, just had a one time bad experience or sent it back because they were too stupid to update the drivers.

I highly recommend EVGA. They have the best warranty, quality products, big and active community to help with problems or questions, they always have some kind of a promotion going on. Give them a shot and you will be impressed TK, ask Wild or Kitty or anybody else here who uses them.

I can't deny, that is what I have right now and it actually rocks. The set up I have now is just lacking a decent card. The board is set up for dual slot cards such as these. The two PCIe slots are seperated to allow for dual cards and the two PCI slots are available even with an SLI set up.

yup i won't buy anything other than an evga video card. I even like their mother boards as well never had one go bad yet out of 3. Customer service at EVGA is great. I always get someone who can help me out. Only grip i have with evga is they don't make a MB that uses the new AMD chips. Sucks as I like their boards but had to buy an asus this time around. Asus is my 2nd brand of choice in MB department.
