Ausu makes a really good laptop Some are expensive but in the world of laptops u get what U pay for. Very little U can upgrade on them. Acer makes a good laptop as well. It really depends on what U wanna do on one. School work only PC will be Cheap School work and Gamming machine will be expensive.

I have an HP pavilion zd8000 17" I am very pleased with. Dunno if they still make it but it's a bit fragile. It has great graphics which is good because I wold think he will not just study on it.

I would get one with NVIDIA or ATI graphics instead of Intel Graphics. Intel ones aren't good at all.

http://promotions.newegg.com/NEemail/July-0-2009/Laptop24/index-landing.html?nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL072409&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL072409-_-email-_-E0-_-Promoword
Acer "Ultimate Gaming" laptop for $600... might be something to like into if you want to save some money... but like Kitty said, don't know your price range... I can forward you the email I got if you want if that link doesn't work, just send me a PM with your email address...
