Yesterday it took several presses of the power button to turn on my monitor, today it won't turn on at all.  I press the button and the status led blinks once, holding it makes it flash repeatedly.  Tried it in different outlets, tried different power cord, checked connections and looked for bent pins.  It's not a signal loss issue as it will normally display a "no signal detected" message.  Called customer service and all they said was it's defective and we can repair it but it would be cheaper to buy a new monitor.  I had a feeling it was going for a few months now I've been getting horizontal black lines and bars on the login screen.  It's a BenQ FP93GX.  The thing is 2 weeks over on a 3 year warranty so I guess I'm out of luck.  Any ideas about what could cause that?

I'll probably be needing a new monitor unless the old one is fixable, I doubt it is.  I'd might as well move to widescreen.  Here's what I'm looking for if anyone has recommendations.  22'', probably 1680x1050 native based on the size (old was 19'' 5:4 1280x1024 native), 6ms response or less with no noticable ghosting in games, DVI connection, around 300 cd/m2 brightness, and as high a contrast ratio as possible.  Probably in the $150-200 range.

I'll be out probably most of this week.

Smooth, I have seen many complain about >6ms.  It used to be anything less than 8ms was acceptable for gaming - I see a lot of people complaining still.  It is my impression that 3ms or less is optimal.

Make sure you look at what the actual refresh is.  As some display the ms in gray to dark and not the full spectum?  Read up on this by google - I learned a bit when buying my 22" Hann-G w/5ms http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254035

Well I'll probably be ordering one tomorrow since I don't have any spares around here and am unable to use my primary machine.  I'm looking at these LG Flatron 2ms monitors and am seeing alot of good reviews.  Newegg's got one for 80 bucks off with free shipping.

I will keep researching though.

That looks sweet Smooth.  $219 includes shipping.  Not bad for a name brand like that too!

That LG Flatron, is the newer model of what went out on me last week,   Kitty and Crazy had the same one I did and there's went out too.  I had a 20" one and I loved it.  It was a 2ms with a 1400-1 lasted about 2 years. I replaced it with this wide screen Acer x203h don't like it as much but it was cheap on sale at Best Buy 109 + tax. it will do until I get a real good one.

Smooth,
at least take that thing apart.. put a meter on the power switch to Ohm it out. if it's not close to 0.00 you might not be getting enough voltage.
Like running on 1 pole with 110 or 220 house voltage.. what happens is the 110 or 220 tries to run the electricity threw 1 pole giving you a low voltage/Amp problem. the same could be the on your monitor.
if your switch isn't 100% you can jump the wires and turn it on Via a power center or another switch in line.

you said it's been going on for a while.. and if the switch has been failing giving you a low voltage/Amp problem the monitor might have suffered a slow death do to lack of Voltage/Amps.
but at least take it apart and give it a look. Ya never know.

I think it's shot no matter what Felix.  The tech support basically said screw you after I told them it was out of warranty and I didn't feel like dealing with it.  I ordered a new one this morning, I was probably in need of an upgrade.  My rig was likely being held back by the lower native res of the ond one anyway.  If it were any other component I would have spent more time trying to fix it.

That sucks!  Been where you're at Smooth and I know it is no fun.  Those line can be so annoying.  Luckily we had an LCD monitor we had gotten free with the tv service package to put on my comp or I would have still been offline going crazy.  Hope to c u soon.  Looks like u got a good monitor.

UPS is bringing it tomorrow.  But the bad thing is it doesn't come with a DVI cable so I ordered one up as I had a few other little things to buy.  They're shipping the monitor from TN and the cable and other stuff from CA.  So I'll have the monitor tomorrow but can't use it until Friday when the other stuff comes.  Noooooo!  4 days without Guild Wars, I hope I'm not dead by Friday.

Got it hooked up.  No dead pixels, played some CoD4 and didn't notice any ghosting, pretty impressed so far.  Just need to tweak the RGB levels.
