Nigh, try anything such as have them send you a newer modem - makes sure the cable connections in your house are solid and have not been compromised to water, breakage and such..Change out the data cables - you would be supprised how many of those we change out in a week at work.

What you can do right now - Shut down all computers that are connected to this modem (including wireless hub - just unplug power) unplug the modem from the electrical, remove the cable (comcast) and the Cat 5 data cable temperarily from the modem.  While modem is off - find a push pin and locate the reset button.  It may be a tiny hole that the push pin will need to be used.  Hold that reset for 15 sec.
Next, walk away.  Leave the modem, off, unpluged...  Have a cup, clean the front room....1/2 hour or more later plug it all back in, turn everything back on and ....walk away, finish that little bit of laundry or what have you but let the modem and your computers work it out.
You may find that you have a new IP.  If not, no worry.  By using the reset button, the next time the modem is powered up and connected, it will receive the most recent update.  This is usually automatic and this process is not needed.

If you still have an issue, check the other machines in house and see what their speed is - still slow? Comcast!
Oh gimme FiOS!

Thanks TK i will try resetting the modem.  Comcast changed al the cables in the house (when the TV reception was messing up) and told me to empty the cache on all my browsers, when told it was for online gaming the person on the other end laughed at my husband LOL.   They got the tv going but then the internet went kaput.  All computers (3) have the slow internet problem with or without the router on or off the wireless.  So resetting the modem may be a good thing to try.

Also, They contacted us and will be out Monday.  So we will see, thanks folks.
