I bought a copy for 89 bucks. Now when I got it it says May  2005 Servers Student/Media work at home on it.    ??????????

Is this OK or do I need to send it back cause the add said nothing about a student or media version.

Kitty, if I am incorrect here, I do not think institutional/student copies of this are not to be sold.  If that is the case I would check it out.

Well i called Microsoft and they said it was a legit copy. Nothing they could do. I also called the place I bought it and they said it is a promo thing that is only released to wholesalers. So, I will get it installed and see what it does. Thanks. will keep all informed on the outcome. LOL

Well got the XP 64 bit going and all updated, Plays BF2 and AA perfect. All Drivers went in just as easy as the 32 bit version no problems so far. Loads a lot faster on boot up thats for sure. Will see from here how it goes.

usually student versions are the pre-basic versions. has the bare essentials just to run. I believe the line goes student, then basic (standard), then professional, then corporate (enterprise). With XP I know the difference between Basic and Pro is that with basic you don't get IIS (or any of the 'web-hosting' features). The difference between VB student/pro is that you can't create EXE's with student, because it is just a "learning" tool and not to be used to actually "develop" software. Office Basic is limited as well, etc etc etc. For the general audience, student is probably all anyone really needs. I mean seriously, who really wants to use Microsoft products to run a server???
