Vermont State Rep. Fred Maslack has read the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, as well as Vermont's own Constitution very carefully, and his strict interpretation of these documents is popping some eyeballs in New England and elsewhere.

Maslack recently proposed a bill to register "non-gun-owners"and require them to pay a $500 fee to the state. Thus Vermont would become the first state to require a permit for the luxury of going about unarmed and assess a fee of $500 for the privilege of not owning a gun.

Maslack read the "militia" phrase of the Second Amendment as not only the right of the individual citizen to bear arms, but as a clear mandate to do so. He believes that universal gun ownership was advocated by the Framers of the Constitution as an antidote to a "monopoly of force" by the government as well as criminals. Vermont's constitution states explicitly that "the people have a right to bear arms for the defense of themselves and the State" and those persons who are "conscientiously scrupulous of bearing arms" shall be required to "pay such equivalent."

Clearly, says Maslack, Vermonters have a constitutional obligation to arm themselves, so that they are capable of responding to "any situation that may arise."

Under the bill, adults who choose not to own a firearm would be required to register their name, address, Social Security Number, and driver's license number with the state. "There is a legitimate government interest in knowing who is not prepared to defend the state should they be asked to do so," Maslack says.

Vermont already boasts a high rate of gun ownership along with the least restrictive laws of any state .... it's currently the only state that allows a citizen to carry a concealed firearm without a permit.

This combination of plenty of guns and few laws regulating them has resulted in a crime rate that is the third lowest in the nation.  " America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards."

This makes sense! There is no reason why gun owners should have to pay taxes to support police protection for people not wanting to own guns. Let them contribute their fair share and pay their own way.  Non-gun owners require more police to protect them and this fee should go to paying for their defense!

I am packing bags now.  Living in Oregon and it's liberal laws we cannot even open carry.  I prefer to carry concealed at times but would prefer to open carry.

This bull shit about gun regulation is all from the liberal left who thinks government is the answer and the U.S Constitution is asswipe. Believing that government is the only ones allowed to carry firearms.  If this were to happen, we would all be hostage to criminals or more importantly a run away government.
In case you are not aware, the framers of this constitution meant for this law to hold government accountable. That we the people can and must hold the government accountable.  You have noticed that we are not flying a red cross.  This was simply due to free people wanting to be free.

Things are so changing today and we ALL must not allow our liberties to be taken by any government let alone our own.  Be careful who you put into office, know what issues are at hand and know WHO is behind that issue.
Stop following and start being an individual and educate yourself in what is really taking place in this country.  Stop with the Republican Democratic dogma and realize both parties have been compromised.
America's kneejerk election that put Obama into office was a mistake in the grandest propportions. All simply because he was black and if anyone tells me otherwise, then ignorance is your enemy. This man has no ability to run a government rather his ability is to bring it down.  Has anyone noticed this? I doubt many actually do.

Rep. Maslack  is making a point that should be known to everyone.  If the liberal left wants fair, there is fair.  Me like alot.

Good post TK.  I contend that people have noticed, the problem is there are still too many followers. I've had people tell me that they have always voted Democrat (or republican) and they are proud of it. I say "Do you not have a brain for yourself?"

So true Smooth, (posted while I was writing this book;) - thus mine before his)
Quite frankly Cain and Newt appear heavily on my radar. Cain a none politician with a resume that can float this entire nation.  Newt has the knowledge to deal with the corrupt administration.  Cains 9-9-9 is a step in the right direction.  I don't see that plan floating but I do see it may have some merit in changing a rediculous over regulating tax code that is the epitemy of class warfare as it was intended.

Thank you Eve, I am not sure they have actually.  I wonder how many really know what the Dodd Frank bill did to hard working Americans, or who Congressman Reid is and how his view on how government jobs are more important than private sector jobs.  Some may know Pelosie but a lot of them really do not know her.  This scum of a politician is part of the pond.  Look this up if you don't understand - education should be 1st on everyones list regarding who is really at the helm here. Of course this is if you even vote.

I am a conservative and I voted for Clinton back in the 90's simply because he was the best choice.
I am so confused at how any true American would even entertain a candidate that had the background of the current president.  Born a Muslim practicing Islam and faking Christianizm behind Rev. Wright. All while planning his campaign in the living room of a convicted terrorist Bill Ayers. But since he is black and a democrat that is an easy pass, the liberal media will ignore and omit the very things all Americans need to know. The first thing was simple who is this guy and who is behind him?!  OMG!
WTF is wrong with people? Is the need to have an honest person president overshadowed by the need to have a black president? I say BS! to that idea and put a PERSON in office that can actually do the job!
Are the ballots being stuffed that much from the left?  Are (some) Americans that s-t-u-p-i-d? Americans had better wake up to the scum that is taking this country over and they need to do it quickly.
Grrrrr, it is so frustrating that many turn their back to what many caused.  Personally if you voted for this POS you should have the ignorance slapped out of you.  That is my opinion.

So far I've voted in every election I've been able to.  Twice Rep, once Dem.  I'll vote for whoever I think will do a better job at the time regardless of party, religion, ethnicity, etc.  I can't say I'm that impressed with any of the Rep candidates this time around.  So far, it looks like it's going to be another "at least I'm not the other guy" election, which is disgusting.  Nobody runs on their own merits anymore.  It's all about picking apart the other guy and image.  They just play to the lowest common denominator.  One party's corrupt, the other's incompitent, and every four years they switch places and accuse the other of being the previous.
