Are you putting in the right disk Wild?  I know some games will require you to put the first disk back in after installing in order to play.  Also, when you put the disk in, does it spin up and autoplay?

did you do minimum or full install? with full install, usually it just requires the first disk to go in there to "verify" that you actually own a disk. Also, if you have more than one drive, make sure you put the disk in the drive you installed from (or the default drive). With the minimum install, it will usually ask you for the first disk to verify, then whatever disk contains the level you are on. Just my tidbit.

Sounds like a DVD drive failure to me.  Now whether that's natural causes or not is a matter for conjecture. <whisper> StarForce!

I do know that some protection plans see programs such as Roxio and Nero as threats and will give the error message mentioned.

I know Smooth, you've had no trouble with StarForce.  Wish myself and two others I know could say the same thing.

Kat, I don't think Madden or COD2 has SF, COD2 is Activision and Madden is EA and I don't think either of those companies use SF.  Yeah, I got lucky and have a few titles working that include SF, but I still don't like the idea of it.  I doubt it was a drive failure Wild, otherwise you wouldn't have been able to install.

Smooth, I made an assumption that he had more than Madden and CoD on his drive.  StarForce can ruin a CD/DVD drive if it is on the computer.  Doesn't need to be the game you are trying to play.

The only other time I have seen that error come up was because of CD burning software.  IL2 did that when I had Clone CD on my HD.  I hated getting rid of that software as it was far better than Roxio or Nero for burning back up CD's.  I finally went with Pyro, which does a good job and seems to get along with most security programs.

No, I never used Clone CD to make an illegal copy.

I did have some problems with Alcohol 120 on my last rig, though the problem couldn't be traced directly to SF.  Also I've had no problems with using Roxio and SF.

You could try getting in touch with Activision support Wild.  I had a recent issue with one of their games, they weren't able to solve it for me, but they were pretty good about getting a reply out.  Might be worth a shot.

i've installed 3 cd-rom drives in the past year since i formated. could it possibly be a driver issue?
