My Dad is looking at getting a laptop.  Either HP or Dell, under $1500.  Internet browsing and some work with CD burning and storing/working with digital pics.  No gaming.  I'm not too up on mobile chips, but it looks like the choices are AMD Turion, Sempron, Athlon 64 mobile, Intel Pentium M, Celeron, P4 mobile.

Dell Inspiron 9300, this is a screaming meany and uses NVIDIA 256mb video.? This thing plays BF2!? Actually it is my wifes laptop and we could not have picked a better laptop.? Beats Toshiba by a landslide.

Little too pricey for him TK.  I was checking out some HP notebooks with him yesterday.  Possibly looking at an Athlon 3200 or 3800 chip, 128mb ATI graphics (I'd like to see if they can offer us an nVidia substitute), 60 gig 5400 rpm hd, 1 or 2 gigs ram, dvd-rom/cd-rw drive combo.  He does mostly internet browsing, so the graphics thing isn't too important, but I'd like to see if we can get nVidia because I am familiar with the interface.

Smooth, you are going to find that most laptops are ATI or Intel onboard graphics.  Rarely see nVidia, unless it's a high priced laptop.  At least that's been my experience.

Rgr, my brother has a Dell laptop with an Intel chip and ATI graphics, the thing overheats like crazy and sometimes even auto shuts down.  I turned down his resolution for a test and since then it doesn't shut down as often.  And he doesn't even game.
