Here's a pretty neat program that will let you monitor a few things on your system including fan rpm's, temps, and voltages.  It also displays hard drive temps.  It will also allow you to instantly adjust the rpm of an individual fan and monitor what effect it has on temps.  For instance, I dropped one of my fans down to 80% and got a noticible vibration, but it went away at 75% and 85%, so I will avoid running that fan at 80%.  It also has features for warnings if a temp rises above a particular degree that you set.  I like it because it has a few more features than PC Probe and is a nice test utility to see how much of an effect a certain fan has on temps.  This is pretty much for the advanced user, as there are some clocking features that are optional, I don't use them.

EDIT: Keep in mind, for the warning features to work, the program must be running in the tray, just like PC Probe.

I've set up some events in the program here.  In this particular one, you can see that if the +12V rail on my power supply fluctuates above 5%, it will send me a pop-up saying +12V +5%.  I've also got an audible warning programmed in that comes over the motherboard's speaker, in case I'm in a game and can't see the pop-up.  I've also put in a setting so that if the CPU fan drops below 1400RPM (50% of it's total capable RPM), it will warn me.  So far I've got settings programmed in for the CPU temp, motherboard temp, hdd temp, cpu fan, and the +12V, +5V, and +3.3V rails on my PSU.  I like this program alot.  It's pretty popular among Asus users that aren't satisfied with PC Probe 2.

smooth did u visit the forums for speedfan?

i know back a bit i was peeved at asus probe, so badger and i tried this out , the repeorted temps differed by 7 degrees C* on my board and badgers board was even higher and he was just glancing through it , badger has water cooling and speedfan told him cpu temps were higher then possible with his o2 setup.

the forums we tried out had no real fixes as of then , we did end up finding a rather simple yet straight forward app called CPU-COOL, that came in with readings off by just 2 degrees C* on my board (asus) and nailed badgers temps right on the money.

there is also everest , a total diagnostic app ,with free demo, monitors temps even tighter then cpu cool.

this was sometime last summer, scince then i use everest exclusevly. not sure how speedfan has patched or if this was resolved.

It's at version 4.28 now.  It reads the same temps and voltages as pc probe lists, which are what the BIOS lists.  I like it because everything is displayed there on the main page.  The warning events are more customizable than pc probe's also.  If you use an Asus board, you know that Q-Fan 2 is a joke.  I tried using it when I first set this rig up and it stopped my CPU fan completely.  With this, you can set a minimum speed and a maximum speed.  The fan will operate in this range depending on the target temperature you set.  The interface is not so intuitive, but it's a very versitile program.  The most error I've seen is a 1 degree difference between it and pc probe.
