I have been investigating this issue and have concluded that if you run your default browser settings (any browser such as IE, Mozilla, Netscape) You are asking for trouble.  It is important that you disable all - ALL 3rd party cookies.
For more information it is highly recommended that you follow this link and read what this is all about.  You may find it shocking.

Your Privacy setting in "Advanced" should look like this.  This is so important and I cannot say this enough.  There are other factors here with third party cookies.  Passwords and keystrokes are just a few things that can be tracked with any cookie.  But you should ( I say should in a very careful way here) be able to trust the original site you log in with but how about those other 3rd party sites that want a peice of you?  Not in my opinion should you want anything to do with those other sites.  If you did, you would just go there directly and have their 1st party cookie installed.

Here is what your IE settings in Privacy - Advanced setting should look like.

I set firefox up to erase cookies as soon as the browser is closed.  I also set up some trusted sites that are always allowed to drop a cookie.

The same can be and should be done with IE.

EXCELLENT ARTICLE TK. THANK YOU FOR SHARING. I HAD ALREADY CHANGED MY SECURITY SETTINGS TO THE CORRECT SETTINGS AS PER YOUR POST IN THE OLD FORUMS TECH AREA. BUT, I HAD NO IDEA WHY THOSE SETTINGS WERE IMPORTANT. THIS ARTICLE WAS SO VERY INFORMATIVE. CLEAR CONCISE AND WRITTEN IN PLAIN EASY TO UNDERSTAND ENGLISH.

Also, advanced settings or not.  Do a system file search for "cookies". A few folders will pop up. Select

C:\Documents and Settings\Glory\Cookies  (where "Glory" is will be the name of your computer or account)

Look in those folders and delete any cookies that you dont recognize.

example to keep would be something like: glory@www.meowworld.com[2].ext
or any site or word you recognize you recognize like "bellsouth"  "bankofamerica"  "ICQ"   "MSN"

These are sites you have cookies in that you need, like bill paying sites or gaming sites.
A bit more trouble than "Delete all cookies" but savestime in looking up passes for half a dozen sites.
(Admins and moderators should log out of any site at the end of the day at least)

Good point thanks.

FYI
Cookies are not always a bad thing.  Actually, most all cookies are essential and serve a good purpose.  Though some idiot/s decided to create invasive cookies only because they can.  These same idiots would make sweet sour if they could.
